A. Chandler Collins, D.C.
Dr. Collins is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Texas Chiropractic College,
and is currently practicing as an associate of Dr. John Bandy, D.C., at Austin
Holistic Health in Austin, Texas. Dr. Collins has long been interested in
the study of human physiology, anatomy, and biomechanics. His interest was first
sparked as a high school and collegiate cross country runner, when he immersed
himself in the science of training.
He went on to spend years coaching triathletes, rowers, runners, cyclists, and
swimmers. It was during this endeavor that Dr. Collins found his passion was
with the complete health of the individual. He brought this passion to the
study of Chiropractic and the pursuit of the best therapies to aid the well
being of his patients.
He has spent hundreds of hours of additional study and certification in areas
such as:
-
Applied Kinesiology (AK) --
a system that evaluates structural, chemical, and
mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing alongside other
standard methods of diagnosis. Muscles lacking sufficient neurological
stimulation are identified and an attempt is then made to determine why that
muscle is not functioning properly. Dr. Collins has completed
extensive training in advanced AK techniques.
-
Athletic Injuries -- Dr. Collins has
pursued both conventional study as well as AK focused approaches to problems
afflicting the athlete. The ability to specifically evaluate how an
athlete's muscles function around an injured area makes AK an incredibly
powerful tool in both prevention and management of athletic injuries.
-
Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis
-- Stories about profoundly sick people coming back with "normal" blood
tests are common. Dr. Collins' training in this area has aided in his
ability to evaluate blood chemistry with a focus on uncovering commonly
missed conditions.
-
Endocrinology -- Dr. Collins' study
of the management of our hormonal systems has aided in his ability to assess
all aspects of health for both men and women.
-
Back Injury Prevention and Workplace
Ergonomics -- Dr. Collins is a certified Red Cross instructor in
these areas.
-
Functional Neurological Assessment --
As the effects of Chiropractic are primarily mediated by the nervous system,
Dr. Collins has pursued additional study in this area through the Carrick
Institute for Graduate Studies, the premier organization in the study of
Chiropractic Neurology.
Dr. Collins' athletic, coaching, and sport science repertoire includes:
-
Over six years of personalized coaching for triathletes, cyclists, runners
and swimmers, including 4 years as a certified coach of USA Triathlon.
-
Coaching internship with Carmichael Training Systems -- trainers of Lance
Armstrong, George Hincapie, and the United States Postal Service and
Discovery cycling teams -- in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
-
Staff coach with Total Immersion Swimming, working at coaching camps
alongside TI founder Terry Laughlin.
-
Attendance at the International Triathlon Coaching Symposium in Edmonton,
Canada, in 2001, and the High Altitude Training Techniques Symposium at the
United States Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2002.
-
Laboratory work as part of graduate study at the Exercise Physiology and
Metabolism Laboratory of Dr. John Ivy, Ph.D., at the University of Texas at
Austin.
-
Ten years of competitive rowing, including having both prepared the training
for, and competed in, the silver medalists men's 8+ at the 2000 US Rowing
Masters Nationals.
-
Three years as a certified coach of the United States Rowing Association.
Today Dr. Collins regularly sees patients with a wide variety of concerns,
encompassing the truly holistic triangle of mechanical, chemical, and
psychological stresses that each of us encounters every day. He lives in
Austin, Texas with his wife and daughter.
